Stretch marks are the result of rapid stretching of the skin during pregnancy or times of growth or weight gain. Damage of collagen and elastic tissue in the middle layer of our skin (dermis) results in the characteristic line-like appearance. The top layer of the skin (epidermis) remains intact.
Existing stretch marks are most responsive to treatment when they are still new and pink or red.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can improve the redness but will not directly improve the lines themselves.
Fractora RF microneedling minimizes the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen production. Best results require 4-6 sessions. Frequently treated areas include stomach, shoulders, thighs, hips, and buttocks.
Topical treatments include retinol (OTC) and tretinoin. They have not been proven safe to use during pregnancy.
Recommended OTC products (in order of popularity):
Please use all products only on a small test spot for the initial 3 days, to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.
